Heraklion Food Tour

Meet and appreciate the special Cretan cuisine in this walking adventure in Heraklion. Fun, family-friendly and, of course... Delicious!!! Our tour is the best way to taste some of the most famous delicacies of the city while wandering through its famous streets. Accompanied by a local, family-friendly guide, your walking tour will consist of visits to several local shops. Each of them has been carefully selected, as it offers a perfect example of what Cretan food means. Your first stop will be a local shop to enjoy a fresh juice and try a "bougatsa" a classic, traditional dish filled with delicious sweet or salty cream.

Then, you will visit one of the oldest shops on the street of the bazaar of Heraklion, there you will learn everything about Greek coffee! For the tradition, the way of roasting, its grinding, the preparation and the way of serving Greek coffee.

You will then head to the open market and meet some of the vendors. They will show you their products and let you taste various olives, cheeses, honey and many other local delicacies.

During this tour you will visit a Cretan herb shop. For thousands of years, Cretans have been using herbal medicines to treat many ailments. A tradition that continues to this day throughout the country. You will learn about their many healing properties, as well as how they can be used in delicious dishes.

Then you will make a stop at the oldest rakadiko of the city, for traditional snacks, accompanied by raki.

Leaving the open market of the city you will head north, where you will visit the ancient sea fortress-castle of the city, built by the Venetians, the famous "Koules".

You'll complete this walking adventure with an authentic traditional Cretan meal in a tangibly older traditional and award-winning restaurant in the city.
